Ending Paragraph

In this paragraph I, attempted to finish a story that my professor had read aloud. It was intended to maintain a heartened plot while still portraying a real life reaction to his predicament. I tried to put myself in his shoes and figure out exactly how I would react to someone that had been in contact with me for the past eight months.

As he locked eyes with Helen, a mutual understanding spread across each of their faces. They had grown close to one another through their letters, and would remain that way. Closer than friends. Their bond was that of a favorite aunt and a nephew, but nothing more. As she gave her silent blessing, he turned away and chased after the girl.
